The Research Service is committed to promoting the conduct of research in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in a manner that protects human subjects and their data, animal subjects, and VA personnel involved in research. The Research Service maintains open communications with researchers and staff under its oversight and will promptly respond to questions, concerns, and suggestions. The Research Service coordinates submissions of all VA research proposals, and is responsible for the administration of all ongoing research programs.
For more than 90 years, the Veterans Affairs (VA) Research and Development program has been improving the lives of Veterans and all Americans through health care discovery and innovation. VA Research is unique because of its focus on health issues that affect Veterans. It is part of an integrated health care system with a state-of-the-art electronic health record and has come to be viewed as a model for superior bench-to-bedside research.

Formed in 1992, the National Association of Veterans' Research and Education Foundations (NAVREF) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization of research and education foundations affiliated with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers. NAVREF's mission is to advance the success of the VA-affiliated research and education corporations.
The Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) is a non-profit, charitable and educational membership organization committed to providing education, certification, and networking opportunities to all persons involved in clinical research activities. SOCRA, the premier educational organization for oncology site coordinators, has now emerged as a leading educational organization for clinical researchers in all therapeutic areas, supporting industry, government and academia.
